Dicas para quando alguém virar mendigo
In an emergency, stay under a bridge. However, for more than a couple of days:
Get a cheap but dependable bicycle with a rack on it that you can strap stuff to. A day- or backpack from a thrift store is also useful. Use the bike to scout out an out-of-the way spot in the woods within an hour's ride from town that nobody can see from the road that probably nobody will care if you use for a few weeks or longer. Find a place near a stream or other source of fresh water that you can use for bathing and washing and boiling for drinking.
Buy some visqueen plastic sheeting from your local hardware store, at least 3 meters X 3 meters, more if you can afford it after having blown money on a bicycle and pack. Also get some rope or stout twine. Borrow or buy a saw or machete and ride back to the spot in the woods with the plastic.
Look around the area for some branches that have fallen from trees. The branches can be curved, but the straighter they are the better. If it's not too much of a strain on the local ecology chop branches of appropriate lengths off trees. Often selective branch cutting can improve the health of trees if you do it thoughtfully. Cut next to the trunk: don't leave anything you can hang your hat on. The branches can be curved, but the straighter they are the better.
Strip twigs and offshoots from the branches. Clear the ground of plants and rocks where your shelter will be and make it level. Now build a structure that will support the plastic in such a way that it will shed water.
The simplest way to go is to run a branch between a fork in one tree to a fork in another tree, then hang the plastic over the branch. Cut a strip of plastic to lay separately inside on the ground as your floor. Make an A-frame by pulling the sides of the plastic outwards, then anchoring them to the ground with heavy rocks or branches.

So now you have rent-free shelter and a bicycle to get you back and forth from home to town while you seek work. During the daytime you should be able to cook on a small open fire near your shelter without getting seen, and you may be able to find a rocky area where even a night fire could be discreet.
To keep your blankets or sleeping bag, clothes, and other property safe, get a large plastic garbage bag or two or other waterproof containers and stash your stuff in it hidden under some brush at least 30 meters from your shelter or hang it high in a tree. If you are stashing food, hang it high (at least 4 meters) in a tree in a sturdy bag or bucket dangling from a strong branch by rope to protect it from hungry animals.
It's summer now and you will learn over the next couple of months from experience about how to improvise shelter and find an appropriate shack-up site. For the winter you will have to develop your skills. A tipi and pair of x-country skis or snow shoes could be an option if you have lots of snow. You can build a fire inside the tipi, or better yet put a wood stove in the center of it. The skis will serve you where and when the bicycle can't.
It's a lot better for peace of mind to squat on land and have your own rustic place than to crash in somebody else's home, in my experience.
Maybe before going all Survivorman in this situation, he ought to consider just using a good ol' homeless shelter?
I only have experience with one, but it wasn't a terrible setup. As a newbie, you might have to be on a waiting list and after, say, 8pm any of the 'regulars' who don't show up forfeit their bed and you get a chance to take their spot. You get a locker with padlock, plus the staff had a large, locked closet they'd let you store stuff in. The shelter will keep you warm/cool, hydrated, fed, and clean. You won't get much good sleep (constant, unceasing farting/burping/coughing/snoring/groaning), but it'll force you into a routine that approximates 'normal' working hours so you have the whole day to spend job hunting. Obviously, resist the urge to join the crowd that's sitting on stoops smoking & wasting the day -- follow the folks that all troop off to the public library every day. You'll have access to the internet, to the classifieds in newspapers, nice environment, clean water & bathrooms, etc. Food is still going to be tricky, and I do recommend going on two meals a day if you can do it (probably one from the shelter, leaving you one to find elsewhere). Check churches and other shelters obviously.
Anyway, my $0.02. I just think mexicodoug's option should be lower down the list (behind shelters, couchsurfing, house sitting, etc). YMMV.
